TA-DA! and the gold goes to [FIRST NAME GOES HERE]🥇

Like millions all over the world, I'm thrilled to see the sparkling joy of everyone at the Paris Olympics. 🇫🇷 You watching, Reader?

The world was ready for a dose of joy, honoring these champions' long years of hard work and resilience.

Many competitors talked about how lonely it was at the Toyko Olympics--and how being able to strive and celebrate in front of real live humans has made all the difference. 🫶🏾

I don't think this feeling is restricted to Olympians, though.

When things get hard at work, we often overlook all the good we’re doing and all of the success we’re actually having.

And if we're working remotely, it's even harder to see what's good without others nearby to mirror back your success.

We clearly see all the things that are undone or imperfect, right? What we fail to see are all the places we're clearing the hurdles of our personal steeplechase or hitting consistent 10s with our corporate bow and arrows.

That's exactly the time when you need to find your TA-DAs.

You’ve seen a TA-DA. It’s that move where we toss up our arms in a celebratory V, throw back our shoulders and pause, for a moment, basking in the energy of what we’ve just accomplished.

TA-DAs are typically the sole province of Olympians, circus folk, and toddlers proudly waddling, arms up, toward their parents.

But here's the interesting thing.

You don't have to be perfect to give yourself a TA-DA.

Fall off the beam? It happens. TA-DA--you tried.

Swing your hammer into the net? At least you picked it up.

It's time to find your TA-DAs.

I write more about the art of the TA-DA in chapter 15 of "Red Cape Rescue: Save Your Career Without Leaving Your Job." The chapter's called Pursue Progress, which I think can be a motto to live by.

To find your TA-DAs, ask yourself a few questions:

  • What do I do well? Don't censor yourself--it's not bragging to be grateful of what you can do.
  • What do I appreciate about myself? What good things do my clients, customers and colleagues say about me?
  • What am I doing that’s making a difference to someone, somewhere--even if it's only for me?

Now throw your hands up, sing out TA-DA, and take a bow.

How 'bout you, Reader? Hit REPLY and tell me YOUR TA-DA. I always love to hear from you and celebrate the amazing human that you are.

We don't have to wait four years (or when the project's done, or when the goal is reached) to celebrate. Progress is always worth a TA-DA. Be sure to give yourself one today--and every day as you do your work in the world. Red capes on, all--keep soaring!

Always, Darcy

P.S. If you missed taking our poll recently, please take a second and tell me what class topic would be useful to you as we plan offerings for the rest of the year:

Hey Reader! As I write this, we're in heavy storm prep here in southwest Florida where I live. By the time you read this, the storm's likely left a mess of mud and heartbreak to clean up. Now, I've been through hurricanes before. So here's what I already know about the "after"-- I'll need help. Smart, capable people like you and me have such a hard time asking for help, don't we? We think, "Oh, I don't want to bother them," or "Well, I'm sure they have their own stuff they need to handle."...

BLOT for Reader--layoff season means it's time to make sure others see your value. Read how here. Something weird happens at this time of year, right Reader? No, it's not pumpkin spice underload . . . It's something a whole lot more gruesome: layoffs. I heard from a few of you this week that your companies announced end-of-year layoffs--or that you suspect some are coming. Being laid off can suck for air, even if you're expecting it. It can be just as hideous to be among the ones left. Since...

If there's one thing I've learned, Reader, is that there are two sure-fire investments you can make in life that will always pay off. 💰💰💰 The first investment is in your own brain. Understanding it, adding to it, using it—definitely fund that account any day of the week and you'll always see positive returns. 💹 The second investment is in relationships. Because everything else you need happens through people. Yup, there's no getting around that. So how do we build—and maintain—good...
